in.tum.quarterly

For Professors, students, employees and friends of the TUM Department of Informatics
Issue 2019/1

Dear colleagues, students, employees and friends of our Department,

Dear IN.TUM family,

more than eight years ago, we introduced our newsletter in.tum.quarterly. Its purpose was and is to inform all members of our department - students, employees, and faculty - of latest department-related news in a regular, compact, and informal way. Since then, a lot of information concerning study programs, courses, projects, people, prizes, events, and all kind of activities has been transported through this channel. With this issue, I would like to announce two changes: First, given IN.TUM's more and more international character, we will switch to "English only" mode; and second, although a printed copy still does have an added value also in a digital world, we will switch to "e-version only" mode. Apart from that, your in.tum.quarterly stays as you know - and hopefully like - it.

Let me add a very warm welcome to our new students! If the predictions based on the number of applications and admissions so far are right, our student population will jump above 6,000 for the first time ever, with growth, however, calming down a bit. This means both challenges and opportunities, as almost always in life (to say something different from "yes, we can" or „wir schaffen das" ...).

So have a good start into the new semester and enjoy your latest issue of in.tum.quarterly,

cordially,

Hans-Joachim Bungartz
Dean of the Department of Informatics
