Issue 2020/2

Dear members of IN.TUM,

What a crazy year 2020! Dominated by a virus (not one of "ours"); full of horror news and pictures, restrictions, changes of habits, challenges in re-organizing life and work, frequently also in keeping up the economic and social basis of life; a huge modernization (esp. digitization) jump on the one hand, while sinister middle-age-style fears and conspiration theories on the other hand; a huge spectrum of reactions, from admirable commitment and efforts on the one hand to a strange haze of inertia on the other hand; new record student numbers at IN.TUM, but at the same time an almost complete absence of students in our building. However, while longing for the return of normality, our Department increases its pace in its many parallel activities (the formation of the CIT School; IN.TUM's extension to the TUM Campus Heilbronn; two new building projects; and those mentioned in this issue). And all this in addition to all the well-known challenges around learning, teaching, and organizing teaching. Maybe at least this year some slowing down towards the end of the year... I wish you and your families "Merry Christmas" and all the best, a good health and success for the New Year.
